Ideas for Change is a Barcelona-based consultancy that assists its clients in achieving exponential growth while making a positive impact on the planet and society. To accomplish this, they leverage their proprietary methodology called "Pentagrowth" to drive innovation with a tangible effect. Ideas for Change specializes in designing and constructing desirable futures that contribute to the betterment of cities, organizations, public institutions, and social entities.
Pentagrowth is an incredible methodology invented by Javier Creus (CEO of Ideas4Change). It is used for the design of disruptive business models that accompany organizations to activate impact innovation and contribute to social change. For more than 7 years, its company has helped +2,000 large and medium-sized companies. Entrepreneurs from around the world have been trained with this methodology to create and redesign their business models.
The methodology consist in five steps where Ideas4Change is actively engaged in the consulting process during several weeks before delivering a roadmap document to the customer including several disruptive business model ideas and a plan to deploy them. Nevertheless, despite the remarkable business model ideas derived from Pentagrowth consulting, many organizations faced challenges in implementing them due to a lack of an innovation culture.
My primary contribution has been the development and implementation of a new Pentagrowth offering, now referred to as the 'Pentagrowth Sprint.' The objective was to assist organizations in prototyping, testing, validating, and making 'go-no go' decisions regarding the disruptive business model ideas proposed during the consulting process. To achieve this, I introduced a second phase to the original process, which includes four additional steps (5/6/7/8). This phase integrates a blend of e-learning experiences, search-oriented innovation methodologies, and coaching sessions provided by Ideas4Change consultants. These additions are designed to ensure the customer's confidence in the process.
Integrating asynchronous e-learning experiences into the Pentagrowth process has significantly improved employee engagement. The Pentagrowth online course serves several purposes:
"Phase 2" focuses on prototyping, testing, validating, and potentially pivoting the disruptive business model ideas generated during "Phase 1." This phase spans a 4-month cycle and involves active participation from the organization's employees, who dedicate 20% of their time. In addition to advancing the ideas, it also fosters an innovation-oriented mindset, equips employees with the necessary tools, and cultivates an innovative culture within the organization.
These supplementary steps were inspired by established search-oriented innovation methodologies, drawing from Lean Startup, Rapid Prototyping, Google Sprint, and Design Thinking principles, designed to facilitate swift prototyping, testing, and potential pivoting for the organization
Proposing remote mentorship throughout the entire process is important when guiding employees who have never collaborated before and are embarking on their first innovation journey within a company. These individuals may come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing a variety of skills and experiences. Remote mentorship is provided on a weekly basis, shaping the rhythm of the innovation process while offering a crucial support structure and building confidence in their innovative endeavors. Furthermore, remote mentorship encourages continuous online learning, facilitates the exchange of ideas, and contributes to the development of a more robust and innovative organizational culture, all while ensuring that employees can access valuable support
After the last project with Esade Business school, I decided to contribute deeper with them until this new bachelor came to light. Visit the following page to learn more.
